Illuminated Fountain

At the time it was unveiled, this illuminated fountain was considered one of the most beautiful in North America. It quickly became the main attraction in La Fontaine Park. At twilight, park visitors strolled around the pond admiring a magical show. For several minutes, multicoloured lights of varying intensity shone while fifty-four powerful jets sprayed water more than sixty feet into the air.

Installation of this feature of the north pond was suggested by Léon Trépanier, alderman for the La Fontaine district. The date coincided with the Golden Jubilee (50th anniversary) of the invention of the incandescent light by Thomas A. Edison.
